It took some time for this display to fetch its footing and settle exactly what it wanted to be. Many expecting it to be very unlit like “Profiler” or intricately technical like “C.S.I.” gave up on it too soon. The pilot episode offered a lot of background and insight into Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessey) . She was shining and handsome, and terribly messed up, disturbed by demons from her childhood. She was also relentless in her pursuit of justice.

Once she left L.A. for Boston, joining the M.E.’s office, she gradually found a home. By the middle of season one, the demonstrate knew what it was and many were happy they’d hung around. It became this wonderfully icy indicate about a miniature group of people in the medical examiner’s office, Jill Hennessy at its center, who had formed a kind of familial bond as they dealt with crimes and their personal problems. In Jordan’s case, who was searching for her mother’s killer, the two often intertwined.

There was a lot of quirky humor and fun mixed in with the darker elements, making for a colossal explain. There was also a elegant ensemble cast. Miguel Ferrer as Jordan’s boss, Katherine Hahn as the always “glass half bulky” Lily, and Jerry O’Connell as Woody, the cop often at odds with Jordan, but sort of loving every shrimp of it, all brought something to the show’s dynamic. Ken Howard was also respectable as Jordan’s estranged father. But it was really Steve Valentine’s Nigel and Ravi Kapoor’s “Bug” and their interactions with Jordan which made the expose special.

They bickered, got in peril, covered for each other, and generally had a life and a family thanks to each other. Crossing Jordan really hit its prance with the two-part “Digger” fable arc. It cemented the demonstrate to its core audience, who stayed from then on. Followed by the very genuine “Blue Christmas” episode, it had finally discovered the perfect mix of crime and quirky humor and personal woes. It was both the black and the light.

One of the immense things about the reveal was the music. An eclectic mix of songs was often frail for atmosphere, which could rush from noir to hilarity in less time than it took to do a fun reference to Elvis. From the middle of season one to the kill of season two, this was substantial television. You could never keep it in in a nice dinky box, pegging it as this kind of exhibit or that. It was simply Crossing Jordan.

Here are the episodes for season one: Pilot, The Dawn of a Unusual Day, The Ties That Bind, Born to Speed, You Can’t Go Home Again, Believers, Digger, Piece I, Digger, Portion II, Blue Christmas, Unpleasant Region, Tainted Time, Blood Relatives, Miracles & Wonders, Four Fathers, Acts of Mercy, Lost and Found, Crime & Punishment, With Honor, For Harry, with Treasure and Squalor, The Gift of Life, Someone to Count On, Secrets & Lies, Secrets & Lies, Section II

With everything on television seeming the same, Crossing Jordan was different. Many episodes and narrative lines were interconnected. You never got the tubby sage from impartial occasionally tuning in for a peak. It required some attention and time. It was what made the display work, and its downfall in later seasons when it tried to fit in more. Seasons one and two were terrific, however, and something a bit different for TV fans to believe.

Crossing Jordan is one of the few series that was ended while it collected had stories to train. The early seasons developed complex characters with complex relationships and the stories kept you engrossed. Sadly, the demonstrate seemed to have fallen off its Network’s radar in the last two seasons and ended with a disappointing episode. The cast was extraordinary and their characters deserved a better closing.

Hard to enjoy that Miramax Entertainment could mess up this DVD so horribly. An anniversary release of one of the most essential films of the 20th century no less. Shame on them.

There are a lot of raves here about the fact that the film is being presented “letterboxed” for the first time. Actually, it’s unbiased the first time the top and bottom of the represent have been chopped off for no reason! “A Hard Day’s Night” was filmed in Academy standard 1.37:1. Slightly wider than your average TV tube, but not anything halt to the 1.66:1 prick job on the recent DVD. Full-frame would have been the worthy presentation.

As for the audio…they DID spruce up the dialog portions of the movie, so for perhaps the first time EVER, you can actually HEAR what everyone is saying - and it no longer sounds like they are speaking into an Edison cylinder recorder.

Buy,Download, Or Stream A Hard Day’s Night! Click Here

But oh, the music. They replaced the new mono soundtrack with the standard mono AHDN CD to replace the overmodulated music on the unusual film. Never mind that there were a couple of different mixes in there that they should have left alone (”Yell Me Why”, “And I Treasure Her”, “If I Fell”) - BUT…they went and added microdelay and phasing to gain some kind of a half-assed 5.1 mix that through a standard stereo or mono downmixed output makes the audio sound phase-y and hollow. This is worse than the recent mono mix (available on the novel Beta & VHS release from 1982 or the print aired on AMC several years ago) and the fact that the standard mono mix was NOT made available as alternate audio on the disc (as it was on the “Yellow Submarine” DVD) is an oversight punishable by public stoning.

As for all the bonus material…not ONE interview with an accurate Beatle? Not even McCartney? The closest we come by is George Martin?

The person slack this mess is none other than Martin Lewis, self-proclaimed Beatle “expert” and all around media whore. Lewis’ involvement explains why no-one at Apple would have anything to do with the project. With some two-hours of useless interviews as “bonus” material, here’s what you DON’T get:

The unique theatrical trailers

The reissue theatrical trailers

The recent theatrical “making-of” featurette

The surviving outtake footage (”You Can’t Do That”) [which, as a sidenote was left off the MPI DVD, making having the VHS & Laserdisc necessary]

The aforementioned MPI documentary DVD

Any surviving smooth photos of the other missing sequences

Running commentary on an alternate audio track

The promised (but not included) Richard Lester’s “Running Jumping Standing Smooth Movie”

Anything of any relevance.

What makes this all the worse is that the image looks terrific. However, it’s been so horribly trashed that the only fine position for this DVD is the trash can or as a trade in at the old-fashioned DVD store.

Anyone who owns the new MPI DVD should maintain on to it and achieve thier tewnty bucks.

Thanks to my friend Steve for enlightening me on this…

Being a titanic Beatle fan, and a gigantic fan of this movie, I highly anticipated the arrival of this title on DVD. The sound on this DVD is terrible, there is absolutely no dynamic range. The volume level seems to cruise at the same level through out the film, there is no contrast in volume between the scenes when there is a unruffled conversation and the scenes where the band is playing. I also maintain the title on laserdisc and let me shriek you, the laserdisc has at least 30 db of dynamic range. While watching this film on laserdisc, you can adjust the level of playback so that the scenes where there is conversation is a comfortable 75 db, and when the band plays it jumps up to an ear thumping 105 db or more. This DVD lacks ooph, the band sounds like their playing in a box. This film deserves a better sound treatment, I highly recommend boycotting the DVD and lets wait till they release it in it’s fine area.

4:3 ratio conceal is very worthy transfer. However, wide-screen isn’t really wide camouflage. it’s a 4:3 camouflage chopped off from top and bottom. in other word, instead of having a whole theatrical record, what you accept is relate that’s been chopped up both vertical and horizontally. what we are seeing is only 1/3 of what’s filmed, which is even smaller than 4:3. somebody cheated expansive time from paramount. setup menu is erroneous leading. I want to witness entire skim span on F-14! It does manufacture enormous disagreement on impact in fighting scene. movie this grand must be done proper. and while at it, perform it a anamorphic enhanced.

“Top Gun” is the mach ten 80s mega hit that state theatre attendance on fire and established producer Jerry Bruckheimer and actor Tom Coast as two of Hollywood’s king size titans, slow and in front of the camera. All about a military flight school urge for `the best of the best,’ the film stars Waft as Lt. Pete Maverick Mitchell. Pete’s too sexy for his leather bomber jacket and he knows it. He’s also short on pleasantries when it comes to wooing the femme fatale of the agreeable skies, Charlotte `Charlie’ Blackwood (Kelly McGillis) . But high flying maneuvers between Pete and Charlie speedily fade from the school room to the bedroom. Then tragedy strikes and Pete has to pull it together to explain himself as the hero of the hour. Val Kilmer costars as Pete’s annoying and priggish rival for the top honors; Tom `Iceman’ Kazanski. The cast also includes Tom Skeritt, Michael Ironside and Anthony Edwards.

What sets “Top Gun” apart from similar military film fare of the 80s is its ability to combine a sense of the miraculous within the gritty world of tougher than tough obstacles. The dog fight footage is thrilling and the residence moves effortlessly from drama, to melodrama, to action/adventure anecdote on testosterone overdrive. There’s even a shirtless scrutinize candy volleyball tournament thrown in, with the guys doing their machismo best to ignite interest in the female population. However, the soundtrack album, which fueled the film’s high octane performance at the box office, now seems to have dated at twice the rate of any other from the 80s - effect `Dirty Dancing.’ Kenny Loggins’ `Playin’ With The Boys’ and Tina Marie’s `Lead Me On’ have that faint tinny echo of a forgotten pop culture where hoop earrings and colossal hair were synonymous with wacky-tacky red carpet glamour. Berlin’s `Take My Breath Away’ does anything but.

After the disastrous pain establish forth on Paramount’s `Footloose’ special editon, I didn’t possess out powerful hope for this transfer either. However, “Top Gun’s” anamorphically enhanced transfer is remarkably orderly and solid. Color saturation is very nicely rendered with velvety blacks and very pristine whites. Occasionally one will effect a dinky hint of film grain. There are no digital anomalies (edge enhancement, pixelization, radiant of sparkling details) for a tranquil video presentation that is clear to please. The audio has been remixed but continues to expose that dated 80s quality that is best left to nostalgia for a time when sound wasn’t quite so integral to one’s overall appreciation of movie culture. Extras include an audio commentary that is adequate at best. There’s also a 6 fraction documentary that really should have been played as one colossal one, four music videos which will confound people as to why MTV became so tremendous, and some storyboards, production materials and vintage featurettes. So space your DVD player to `cruise’ control and win ready to dwelling off for the wild blue yonder. “Top Gun” is a blast!

Hi all…

I fair wanted to allotment my thought on the DVD release ‘Michael Jackson: A Much Life’…

However, I have to say that this documentary is probably the most definite I’ve ever seen about Michael Jackson. The words ‘nose’, ‘elephant man’s bones’, ‘child abuse’, ‘oxygen chamber’ or ’surgery’ (impartial to name a few out of the many famous cliché’s) do not present up even ONCE… (which is incredible and lovely trim in my thought!) . It’s mainly people finish to Michael (in the past AND note) who shriek about their experiences of working with him. They talk about the procedure he does things, there are some laughable anecdotes and they’re all really clear and all praise him for the method he works and creates.

The DVD overlaps the era’s from the early ‘Steeltown’ beginning and Michael’s birth in Gary up ’til the Invincible era. It’s a 2003 production so it’s kind of up-to-date.

Special thanks in the slay credits of this British production go out to: Samm Brown III, Patrick Chen, Matt Forger, Smith Wordes, Paul Knotter, Reduce Brandt, William Brandt Jr., Antonio J. Bryant, Robert D. Bryant, Allen Sides, Bill Bottrell, Uri Geller and Paul Madley. Most of these were interviewed as well!

Interesting inside glimpse of Mr. music composer/creator/singer himself, aka Michael Jackson. Worth having a view at and a must-have for fans! Although fans probably won’t hear too great they’ve never heard before it’s calm worth purchasing. I don’t know about the prices worldwide but the tag I paid at ‘Fame’ Music Store in Amsterdam was € 19,99.

I hope my review will be estimable to all of you who are enthusiastic in this current ‘Chrome Dreams’ release.

I watched KOR when I was a teenager; in fact, my age is about the same as Kyosuke, Madoka, and Hikaru in the display. Surprisingly, I found myself appreciating the animation, especially this final OAV movie and the unusual movie, more so as a fat grown adult upright now with kids. The reveal is about like and commitments one made in life, whatever that might be. While there might be some silliness in the movie (and the fresh TV expose), those silliness only enable the characters and the audience to ask the demand “what if’s”.

Buy,Download, Or Stream New Kimagure Orange Road: Summer’s Beginning! Click Here

The only query I have is why Amazon added “Vol. 1″ after the title; this is a movie, not a OAV series.

First, I should let you know that the DVD I bought had a different camouflage. Same movie, however.

If you have watched all the TV episodes, the other OAVs, and the final movie for KOR (I want to return to that day–the inevitable and heartrendingly beautiful/painful resolution of the esteem triangle), you very likely have as grand like for the series as I do, and can overlook (or embrace) the occasional bits of cheesy silliness that were point to in all of KOR except the final movie, instead submersing yourself in the moral beauty and sweetness of the series.

Buy,Download, Or Stream New Kimagure Orange Road: Summer’s Beginning! Click Here

This OAV (which is NOT allotment of a fresh series. It’s called “novel” to reveal that it comes AFTER “I want to return to that day”) has the cheese, and has the sweetness and fun, fair like the other OAVs did.

Although I beget this OAV could stand alone, I contemplate it is considerable better favorable to be watched after someone’s seen a expedient section of the TV episodes, one or two OAVs, and absolutely the Final Movie (which is, IMO, stunningly splendid.)

This OAV makes a friendly postscript to the series by showing not only that life and joy and friendship go on, but also showing how they went on in the lives of the characters we’ve approach to adore. I’d give it five stars, but not for anyone watching it without having seen the series, so I’m leaving it at four.

I fully agree with Mr Forsythe from London (Ontario) . If like Mr Maitlin, you mediate this movie with the special effects of the 1999, the movie is hokey. But the character, dedication and courage of Ulysse has never been so well portrayed as by Kirk Douglas. Sylvana Mangano doesn’t do worthy, but she portrayed only too well why a man will fight 20 years to return to her and their son. Anthony Quinn gives a resplendent performance as the suitor. The unique version with Armand Assante, while proficient in special effects, doesn’t exploit the richness of characters showned in the multi-european film. I have seen this movie in the 1960 and again this year. It is the same emotion and commitment. This is Homer’s Odyssey. If you have not seen this movie, bag your hand on the vidéo. This is a film I would gladly acquire in VideoLaser disc or the fresh DVD. It is worth the money.

…and that’s putting it mildly! Here Kirk is playing the Greek general Ulysses who spends twenty years away from the bosom of his family, ten at the Trojan War and ten on an ill-fated voyage abet to Ithaca.

Now, when I first came across my brothers watching this video, I couldn’t enjoy my eyes that Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn were in such a cheap-looking movie! Nobody else is an actor or actress of any standing, and the production values are not up to Hollywood standards. Most distressing of all, everyone’s dubbed in, including Kirk!

Once I had gotten over all these obstacles, though, I was able to like the movie. Ulysses’ adventures are recounted as a flashback as he recuperates from amnesia in a outlandish kingdom. We notice him outwit the Cyclops, go angry from the siren’s song, and lose all track of time while being enchanted by Circe. Intersperced with Ulysses’ strivings are scenes befriend at Ithaca, where Penelope has all she can do to fill onto her absent husband’s throne from would-be usurpers vying for her hand. A unusual suitor emerges from the pack, played by Anthony Quinn, and he, like Kirk, plays his role straight despite the film’s other limitations. The VERY extinguish, AFTER all the bloodshed in the banquet hall, seems to raze abruptly with Kirk and Penelope talking very hastily off shroud about how they have to effect up for lost time. That looks a tiny, “We have to give the cameras help, so let’s slay it now.”

Still in all, “Ulysses” will entertain you if you let it; it did wonders for me, my brothers, and a two-year-old who wandered into the room and found the Cyclops really spirited.

As the five-star rating would display, I’ve loved TOMMY sincethe day it opened (and yes, I was there for its premiere) . I’ve alsopurchased the movie in objective about every incarnation that have been released: videotape, laserdisc, and now DVD.

What’s most enthralling about the DVD version — and something which doesn’t seem to have been mentioned in other Amazon reviews — is that the soundtrack to the film has been completely restored. “Quintaphonic sound” may sound a diminutive comical and may not even mean noteworthy in this age of digital sound, but TOMMY was the movie that saw the rebirth of multi-channel audio (most films of the behind 60s and early 70s were either mono or 2-channel stereo) . The enhanced 5-channel discrete sound was a perfect extension of Ken Russell’s courageous visuals. The mark line to the movie was “Your senses will never be the same,” and it perfectly described both the visual AND aural assault on audience members.

Well, this DVD is the first (and only) format to feature the complete “Quintaphonic” soundtrack. If you have a Dolby Digital decoder, you’re going to hear the movie in a design that wasn’t even possible encourage in 1975! All of the vocals are locked unimaginative center while the glean itself blasts out of the remaining four speakers. And there’s absolutely no distortion, even when you jack the volume up (which you should, since it was intended to be heard that plot) . It’s a fantastic - and quite unexpected - thrill to hear the movie this plot. Previous editions had absolutely dreadful audio tracks that were poorly mixed down from the originals. The result — even on the laserdisc — was a muddy mess. Not so with this DVD edition, which includes a written essay insert explaining the soundtrack’s restoration.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tommy! Click Here

The recount quality is also outstanding. One key moment: during the blackout share of “Fiddle About” the shroud is absolutely dusky — not a speck can be seen, proof that this film was carefully transferred from a pristine source print!

This is an fabulous film presented on an unbelievable DVD. If your home system isn’t yet able to decode the Dolby Digital soundtrack, do yourself a favor and obtain a decoder at the same time you purchase this disc. You won’t be sorry.

I’d warn the neighbors first, though!

Having heard about Tommy for years, I felt it was time to actually gawk the movie. I had never acquired grand of a sense for what the movie is about, probably because I don’t mediate it is really possible to actually clarify the film to anyone else. This is some beautiful exclusive stuff. As the thing progressed, I had a hard time figuring out if I liked what I was seeing, whether it made any sense, etc. In the kill, I must say I did savor the film, thanks largely to Daltrey, the music, and Ann-Margaret. What does it all mean? That’s a toughie, as I’m certain the anecdote means different things to different people. I had the sense that Tommy is supposed to be some kind of spiritual experience, and in some ways it is - maybe.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tommy! Click Here

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tommy! Click Here

Here’s my ridiculously oversimplified summary of the basic sage. As a kid, Tommy is messed up heavenly proper, having witnessed something dazzling dramatic; as a result, he becomes deaf, blind, and peaceful - for psychological rather than physical reasons. His mother (Ann-Margaret) and step-father try all kinds of queer cures as Tommy enters what should be his adulthood, including a visit to the holy rollers at a church that worships Marilyn Monroe and a special session with “The Acid Queen” (Tina Turner) . Nothing seems to come by through to him - until, of course, he happens to arrive across a pinball machine. Truly, that deaf, dull, and blind kid obvious plays a mean pinball, knocking the unique pinball wizard (Elton John) off his pedestal. Suddenly, Tommy’s family is rolling in the money, yet Tommy remains uncommunicative. When he does eventually score “awareness,” he is transformed into a messiah figure, and crowds flock to him to hear his wisdom.

The film gets off to a handsome wearisome inaugurate, as we follow Tommy’s childhood. Then Tina Turner enters the report as The Acid Queen, and she forevermore gets the joint jumping with her electric performance. Other memorable performers include Eric Clapton, Elton John, and Jack Nicholson (who does in fact notify here) . Ann-Margaret tops all of them with her performance, though, earning an Academy Award nomination for her work. It’s a demanding role; alongside the acting and singing, she also has to roll around in a chocolatey, gooey mess. She may have been a miniature older in 1975, but Ann-Margaret definitely composed had it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tommy! Click Here

The boys from the band pop in from time to time, but the fable is increasingly focused on Tommy, his awakening, and his cult following. Some really determined representations of Christianity are incorporated into the film, while, at the same time, greed and materialism are also spotlighted as counterfeit gods. Ultimately, though - thanks to a problematic ending -it is hard for me to discern the message that the filmmakers were actually trying to communicate here. I’ve heard that The Who’s unique album makes some of the more esoteric aspects of the Tommy chronicle a small clearer.

Obviously, some individuals will not like this film at all; it’s sort of an acid hump on film, vague and unsettling with its symbolism and discernible criticisms of organized religion. Others may gather enlightenment of one sort or another. Most people, including me, will probably honest eye at this as a odd but oddly spirited musical that leaves you scratching your head a miniature bit after you inspect it. Of course, even if the record loses you completely, you serene have plenty of tall music from The Who to sit relieve and relish.

Definitely don’t consume this DVD version from MGM. They have made some serious mastering errors on this edition. Several scenes are subject to double-imaging (no excuse for that), as well as variances in the color timing and the volume. This title is also in badly need of Technicolor restoration: it has a greenish-look and suffers from color fading (I understand that the previous HBO DVD release did also) . At the very least, MGM Home Entertainment needs to pull this title and upright the double-imaging.

Like so many other people I was waiting for this novel release on DVD. Imagine my disappointment when I find 24 minutes into the movie and I score double images! It lasted until about 32 minutes later (when Bob Hope encounters the Bucket of Blood) . MGM needs to come by the message that these classic movies simply can’t be treated this plan.

“The Outrage” is Director Martin Ritt’s Western version of Akira Kurosawa’s classic masterpiece “Rashomon”. Paul Newman stars as the ruthless Juan Carrasco. We already know that when Ritt and Newman team up for a Western/Character gaze (”Hombre”/”Hud”) we are in for a cinematic excellence. This film is no exception.

Filmed in stark dim and white, which is perfect for this sage, the film opens at a dusky railway location, in the pouring rain, while three men wait for the disclose. A preacher is so outraged by the events that unfolded at a murder/rape dart that he is fleeing town. Another wants to hear the record that could produce a preacher urge, and the third, peek to the events, begins to divulge the record.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Outrage! Click Here

Carrasco, who has a reputation for being the baddest of the abominable, is on trial for the abolish of a man(Laurence Harvey), and the rape of his wife(Claire Bloom) . He says, it doesn’t matter what I say,you will convict me for the crimes I have committed and even the ones you only believe I have. He confesses and tells the sage of how he tortured the couple. But, that’s not the slay, only the beginning, as there are 3 other versions of the record to be heard, each telling it through their eyes, with very different outcomes.

The viewer gets to peek these four very different but tragic stories, with the three principles taking on very different personalities in each version. One account even takes a comic turn at the events.

Ritt does an obedient job of taking the viewer through the four different scenarios. Newman, Harvey, and Bloom capture on the changes impeccably. James Wong Howe’s cinematography, and camera angles add greatly to the tenseness of the record. William Shatner, Edward G Robinson and Howard Da Silva round off this tremendous cast fabulously, as the fleeing preacher, the nosey con man and the prospector who “saw it all”.

I was hoping to win a DVD edition of this unbelievable film, but no luck. Hopefully it will be restored, and transfered in the recent widescreen soon.

update:2/18/09 - My wish came suitable. I now contain the DVD and here is a litle about the dvd:2/18/09 - Howe’s b/w cinematography looked desirable and crisp. Whites very white and the describe was distinct. The railway state scenes, dismal to open with seemed a minute too sad at times and hard to witness the faces ocassionally, but for the most portion and the rest of the film, a nice exciting understanding in widescreen format. The rain sounded as if it was coming down apt outside my window. Features: Warner Bros - you dropped the ball here. There were no special features at all.It doesnt even near with any insert. Not even a chapter menu. If you want to survey a positive scene, you have to consume your skip button and then snappily forward or reverse till you accumulate what you are looking for. Pay no attention to Maltin’s dsimissive review: this is a elegant film. The entire cast is in trustworthy build, with DaSilva’s miner and Robinson’s snake oil salesman particularly grand. Newman’s performance as the bandit is curious but arresting, and often hilarious. An silly and thought-provoking movie from the 60’s, a decade that gave us some of our best films.
